Volunteers needed for Paton Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair, one of Paton’s biggest annual fundraisers, will be returning to the school this week.

The in-school fair will run from October 30 and will conclude on November 7th with a Family Night and an Ice Cream Social! The Scholastic Book Fair benefits Paton in many ways above and beyond the monthly Scholastic flyers that are sent home from your child’s classroom teacher.  There are added benefits for you too, including an expanded selection from toddlers through adult, online shopping opportunities and the ability to donate books to your student’s classroom wish list!

How can you help us make this event a success? Check out our Sign Up Genius list of opportunities to volunteer your time with assisting classes craft their wish lists, running the register, filling book orders, and more!

Parent volunteers needed for back to school

With less than two weeks until we return to Paton for another fantastic, fun-filled year of learning and friendship, Paton officials have begun prepping for the start of “back to school” and are seeking parent volunteers to help out at some upcoming events.

Volunteers are needed for the following:

Paton Open House: This event will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 3:00 – 4:30.  This annual event is for families who want to tour the school before the start of the year. The PTO is seeking a few volunteers to be on hand to answer questions and assist on the 22nd – and to follow up on a few remaining prep items.

Teacher Luncheon: This welcome back to school luncheon for teachers will be held on August 25th.  The hospitality co-chairs are seeking volunteers to help out. Sign up to bring items for the lunch or to help out at this link:

First day of school bus welcome committee: Each year a group of parents is on hand at the school to welcome students in to the building and offer extra hands in assisting with the back-to-school, first-day rush by answering student questions and offering other support as needed. We will need volunteers two days this year – on 8/26 for the first day for grades 1-4 and then again on 8/27 for Kindergarteners.

First week of school lunch: Volunteers are needed to help out at lunch time and sit with Kindergarten and First Graders who are new to the school and may like the helping hands of a reassuring adult to help with new-school anxiety, getting to know the lunch room and opening lunch box items.

Please sign up to volunteer for either of these opportunities here:

Other volunteer opportunities this year in positions assisting with events and PTO initiatives include:

  • Student Directory
  • Book Fair
  • Open House
  • Fall Social

Any help and time you can offer is truly needed and appreciated. Please use the above links to SignUp Genius to volunteer, or contact Paton PTO volunteers coordinator Sarah Merolle (smerolle@verizon.net) with questions and for more details on any of the above opportunities to make a difference in our school!

Volunteering At Paton

by PTO Volunteer Coordinator, Sarah Merolle

Playground

As you know, we expect that the playground will soon be open for the children to enjoy!  There are just two tasks that need to be complete prior to the opening, and we need some volunteer help to make this happen. Please consider donating some of your time this Saturday morning, October 13, to assist with the following:

  • backfill the area behind the back curbing with soil to stabilize and prevent run-off of wood fiber into the conservation land
  • removal of the silt fencing

Please contact me at smerolle@verizon.net if you are able to assist, or if you have any questions.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Fall Social

As you know the PTO is busy planning many activities and events for the upcoming school year.  Although we have many of our chairperson positions filled, we still have a vacancy for the Fall Social, which is coming up quickly! The Fall Social is a fun evening including pumpkin painting, popcorn munching, and socializing!  It’s fairly easy to organize, and is a great way to get involved in the Paton community!  We need to identify a chairperson VERY quickly, or we will not be able to run this event.  Please consider helping out – grab a friend and work on it together! Please contact me at smerolle@verizon.net if you are able to assist, or if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for your help!
