School Committee Members Meet With Paton Community

At a coffee forum hosted by the Paton PTO tonight, two members of the School Committee discussed the school budget. Over two dozen people came to the meeting: Paton parents, educators, and even parents from other schools. We discussed bursting class sizes, underfunded staffing, and strategies to proceed further.  Many people agreed that the Board of Selectmen needs to be contacted because it’s the Selectmen who decide how much the schools will be funded next year.  The Selectmen have already decided not to even consider a budget override this year, so now we have to go into the next budget with limited options. Regardless of state or federal contributions, it’s up to the Town to solve its fiscal woes.

To contact the selectmen, please email selectmen@th.ci.shrewsbury.ma.us.

Thanks to Sandy Fryc and Dale Magee for joining us tonight!  They heard our frustrations and everyone was respectful just as we would expect the students to be.

Budget Survey

PTO is seeking your input in advance of the School Committee’s October 24th Budget Forum at Oak Middle School.

Co-Presidents Lorraine Daignault and Melissa Wensky ask that you respond to this short, anonymous online survey, http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CBVCFJQ.

They will summarize and share the Paton community’s thoughts that evening.

The Survey takes less than 3 minutes!
